National Climate Change Consciousness Week+ Creating Convergence on Climate Change
EVENT TITLE: | Children and Youth Workshop on Climate Change: Pinoy + Youth + Power in a Changing Climate |
DATE & TIME: | November 22, 2011, Tuesday, 8:00AM-5:00PM |
VENUE: | Meeting Rooms 7 and 8, 2nd Floor, SMX Convention Center, Pasay City |
PRINCIPAL ORGANIZER: | Climate Change Commission |
PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS: | USAID Philippines UNICEF Philippines The Climate Reality Project National Youth Commission Council for the Welfare of Children Sangguniang Kabataan National Federation |
Background and Rationale:
Climate change is an urgent and serious threat confronting us. However, children and youth, constituting nearly half of the world’s population, face greater climate and disaster risks. Whether they like it or not, it is their generation who will endure the unprecedented consequences of environmental degradation and changing climate if kept unabated. On the other hand, children and youth of less developed countries are considered more vulnerable. Climate change aggravates their tenuous conditions ascribed to existing geographical, social, political, and economic challenges. Filipino children and youth, who accounts for one third of the population, are already experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change (UNICEF 2007, UN 2010).
Different children and youth groups are already making significant contributions to combat climate change. In the recent Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Filipino youth representatives with their dynamism and zeal actively participated in the negotiations. Youth-led programs and organizations are also instigated in support of the advocacy on climate change. Nevertheless, despite existing children and youth initiatives, there is still a need to promote awareness and empower the youth in order for them to undertake a more proactive role in decision-making processes and program development to adapt to and mitigate climate change.
Objectives:
Children and youth are key agents of change. It is of prime importance to consult and engage them in shaping climate change policies and programs of the government. This is in recognition of their higher vulnerability to the dangerous impacts of climate change and environmental degradation and, at the same time, their capacity as climate change advocates, movers and researchers.
At the end of the Climate Change Event, 100 to 150 children and youth participants representing Metro Manila and different sectors such as governance, youth with special needs, indigenous peoples, and academic and community groups will appreciate their key roles as agents for adaptation and mitigation empowerment. By the end of the Forum, the children and youth participants will
1) Understand and appreciate how climate change affects the children and youth of the Philippines;
2) Understand and appreciate the challenges presented by climate change by discussing the science, impacts, policies, programs and dynamics in the national and international arena;
3) Be able to articulate how they can contribute to the Philippine’s responses to the challenge of climate change; and
4) Formulate a National Climate Change Children and Youth Agenda that articulates their inputs to the National Climate Change Action Plan.

TEAM SHOADS
Sometimes it is funny to think that they look elite in some ways yet they are very thrifty when it comes to outing, especially the to budgeting. Only Chuck, me and Nathalia are the singles on the group, or should i say not into any relationship. Bonjo-RoseAnn, Pau-Louise, Jolz-Xtian are couples.

OJT JOURNALS - WEEK2 AT CORETV (May 2-6, 2011)
May 2, 2011 (Monday)
It was another boring day. What we only did was to help on the preparation before and during the shoot of the daily news program, Press Core.
May 3, 2011 (Tuesday)
Everybody was very busy for the most awaited event of the CoreTV people, the 4th Kick Ass Award which gives appreciation and thank the best people behind those TV programs seen in the said local TV network. That's why we did not do anything except, helping on the shoot of the daily news program, PressCore.
My co-on-the-job trainees and I were invited to attend the said event. The boredom we had experienced the whole day turned into a very exciting when we had a joyful party at the Super Club after the said awarding.
May 4, 2011 (Wednesday)
I entered the office at around 8:30 and it seemed that only few were present. Maybe they've got hang over last night. We have met the 15 Mass Com students from MMSU for an OJT too.
As expected, what we only did is to help for the shoot of PressCore and went with the reporters to cover a news in Binatbatan Festival.
May 5, 2011 (Thursday)
We accompanied the reporters to cover an event at the Binatbatan Festival.
May 6, 2011 (Friday)
Everybody was busy. They let me digitize the tapes using the Adobe Premiere. In the afternoon, together with the MMSU trainees, the creative director and videographer of the company met us to give us our special works or tasks. They have said that next week, they will already be active again with so many works, for the past days and weeks, they have their season break.

OJT JOURNALS - WEEK1 AT CORETV (April 25-30, 2011)
April 25, 2011 (Monday)
Woah! it is our first day as trainees. We were introduced to the different staff of the CoreTV team production. Mr. Jed Pe Benito, one of the video and graphic editors of the said company, introduced us to his fellow employees. Our first task? We have edited the interview footage of Director Cedric, to the casts of the upcoming movie Temptation Island who were shooting at Paoay, Ilocos Norte. After that, Mr. Jhezel, one of the editors and director as well, asked me to edit the video footage of the Candon City Fiesta. Also, we were able to watch a shoot of their daily local tv news, Press Core.
April 26, 2011 (Tuesday)
Second Day! This day was tiring but contented for the experiences I gained. In the morning, I continued my work, editing the Candon City Fiesta TV Coverage. I felt bored, and so with my fellow trainees. The boredom disappeared when we got a news from Mr. Jhezel that we are going with them in a shoot of their local version of ABS-CBN News Channel’s StoryLine, “Biag Ko”. Some pictures of the shoot are displayed below..
April 27, 2011 (Wednesday)
Mr. Jhezel let us watched the TV Commercial he was producing. We were able to get some techniques on the software he is using which is the ADOBE After Effects. After two hours of making, it was already shown in the television. I got excited that someday, I could do my own produced tv commercial. The rest of the day, we just edit… and edit… and edit…. the TV Coverage of the Candon City Fiesta.
April 28, 2011 (Thursday)
We have finalized the video coverage of Candon City Fiesta. Also, we went to the Press Core (CoreTV’s daily news program) studio to help something for the shooting. They let us watch their different episodes of their TV programs so that we could get ideas and to be inspired to do such great graphics and techniques. Thank you for the effort of Mr. Jed and Mr. Jhezel, both producers and graphic editors of the said company, that they did not treat us as different people.
April 29, 2011 (Friday)
The editors were very busy doing video presentations for the upcoming Kick Ass Awards 2011; the CoreTV’s annual awarding, to give appreciation to their very able and hardworking employees, to be held at Legacy, Vigan City. We just watched them for us to learn something. They could not give us the work since it is to be done professionally.
In the afternoon, my co-trainees and I was sent to the other room for a seminar of the professional digital camera owners. There we have learned a lot of doing shots. Mr. Rolly Magpano, a traveler, an artist adventurer, a professional photographer, an Asst. Manager and Art Director of GMA Network Broadcasting Corp. was the speaker for the said seminar. I just felt blessed and special that I have experienced to be there even though I am not into the field of photography. Except for liking to be an editor, I have come to realize after the event, that I want also to be a photographer.
April 30, 2011 (Saturday)
In the afternoon, I looked for a work in the editing room but then, it seemed there's nothing to be done. Direk and Kuya Marky were then preparing at the studio for a shoot; a video presentation for the nominees and local artists of the CoreTV productions for the Kick Ass Awards 2011. I served as a "fogger" - taga-usok.
